First Month Success!!!

deviantart.com

When I set out to do the COMBOMEDIC, I wasn't sure what I really wanted it to be.  I have read those form the PodMedic, RogueMedic, Everyday EMS Tips and many many more.  Each one seems to have a unique pitch and view on the emergency services community and it was really hard to pick a niche outside what is already there.  For the past 12 years I have served in both the fire service, EMS and emergency management and have been working on my education in all areas as well.

So what were my goals for the COMBOMEDIC.  Well first of all, I wanted a forum to write my thoughts about topics of the day, or multiple topics in a day.  And I think I have really been able to accomplish that.  I have been able to discuss why I think there is issues with an organization not proving CPR to an individual who could have used the help, to an individual surviving a fall from 8000 feet.  It really has been fun, and hopefully you have been able to enjoy the topics as well.

Secondly, I wanted to find a way to expand the projects that I have been working on recently.  I have been able to join up with the EMS Educast to provide the new format of the EMS Educast Mini.  Continuing the tradition of By EMS educators for EMS educators, the Mini takes topics that aren't ready for the traditional hour long podcast and presents them to the listeners.  Now in this past week, the EMS Educast posted the latest edition of the Educast MINI (Michael Jordan Teaches EMS) and expand on the topic.  The short format is great to tie into the blogosphere, and I was able to release the written version of the podcast as well.

Third, I just wanted to have fun and learn more about the interactions of social media in EMS.  By creating the COMBOMEDIC Blog, I have taken a brand that had no prior interaction with the public and cultivate it into a blog with 1000 hits in its first month.  Now, in the world of blogging that probably isn't much, but it is something good.  In fact we actually received 1000 hits in about 26 days.  Now to see what we can do with it, I am looking to double that in month 2 and see if we can get 2000 in the second month for a total of 3000.  Now, if my sister reads this she is going to laugh because about a week after I started my blog she started hers in a completely different and she hit the jackpot for viewers...but I'm not going to let that get me down.

So, as we take our sleep deprived bodies into the next month of the COMBOMEDIC, I am going to really open up the blog and have some more fun with it.  I found out that I can add videos, and pictures to my blog, I was able to clean it up and make it look more presentable, and I think I am beginning to tie real world events to the world of blogs pretty well now and I am going to keep on that trend.

So keep an eye on the COMBOMEDIC and see where we go from here.

Take care and Stay Safe!!!

ELPA 6872 -Educational Technology

Good Morning Everybody. It has been a long time since I have posted on this blog.  The reason I am is a great reason for my Fire and EMS Audience, as well as my academic colleagues. After a very eventful beginning of 2018, my application was selected to join the latest cohort of students obtaining their Doctor of Education.  As part of this program, we are completing a course that is dedicated to technology and implementation into the classroom.  The delivery of this program is through technology based platforms, in that it is an online program. Here are some questions that I have about technology, and online learning. 1)  To mimic some of the classroom interaction and discussion, online educators use the discussion board with each module to foster communication.  For those of you having completed online educational programs, what made the discussion board useful? 2)  Does the set-up of the online course material make a difference in the success o...

EMS Today 2013 - Social Media Style

EMS Today 2013 is has ended and everybody is returning back to their homes in spite of mother natures attempt to infiltrate Washington DC with #snowquester2013.  Don't you just love how so many take a name and quickly rebrand it into another name.  Now I must say, EMS Today 2013 was a massive success...and I wasn't even there.  The 2013 JEMS Conference and Exposition was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the center of the Nation's Capital, Washington DC.  Kicking off the conference with the National Association of EMS Educators Instructor I course, the main conference was held from 5-9 March 2013. AJ Heightman, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (www.jems.com) providing the momentous kick-off necessary for a conference of this size.  Coming forward in a three piece suit, Mr. Heightman spoke to the "Changing History, Unchangeable Dedication" and brought the attendees through the years and provided awards to thos...

Bystanders dive in to save 6 year old.

I can't help it...I really enjoy hearing stories about people taking the risks associated with helping others. Now, I completly advocate for calculated risks, and in this event the bystanders thought the risk of their lives versus that of a 6 year old child was a good exchange, and for the 6 year old it was. Now professional rescuers are looking for those that entered the raging river in hopes of a successful outcome. South Dakota rescuers are attempting to mitigate minimal visability from a foam riddled river looking for the two individuals who rescued a boy. As reporters state, the Foam is a by-product of chemical agents that are leaked into the river causing grave circumstances for the two. Now those very same responders are presuming those two individuals have drown in the icy river in which they were able to extricate the 6 year old from.
