EMS Today 2013 is has ended and everybody is returning back to their homes in spite of mother natures attempt to infiltrate Washington DC with #snowquester2013. Don't you just love how so many take a name and quickly rebrand it into another name. Now I must say, EMS Today 2013 was a massive success...and I wasn't even there. The 2013 JEMS Conference and Exposition was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the center of the Nation's Capital, Washington DC. Kicking off the conference with the National Association of EMS Educators Instructor I course, the main conference was held from 5-9 March 2013.
AJ Heightman, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (www.jems.com) providing the momentous kick-off necessary for a conference of this size. Coming forward in a three piece suit, Mr. Heightman spoke to the "Changing History, Unchangeable Dedication" and brought the attendees through the years and provided awards to those dedicated to the unchanging dedication our professionals always have.
Now, as you saw above, I wasn't at the conference...so how could I know how good the conference actually was? Well, the social media outlook for the conference was excellent. I could almost tell you every line that was said in almost every situation. Watching the hashtags for each session as they came available and listening to the conversation that was going on during the lectures was great. It kicked off for me with #stroke2013 and the discussion of strokes and stroke treatments. So, what did I learn...quick IM injections of benzodiazapines for control.
Another thing that I found to be completely interesting was the "why I came to EMS today" hashtag and retreats by @emstoday. I know why I attend conferences, and have been looking at which additional conferences I should be looking at attending and this was an interesting insight into the conference. So I am looking forward to attending this conference in 2014 and bringing the newest COMBOMEDIC Blog and PODCAST to the conference.
Take Care and Stay Safe!!!
